"Blue On Blue"
On September 11, 2001 my wife called me from her office in NYC to my home studio in Hoboken that a plane had accidentally slammed into one of the World Trade Center Towers. This instantly reminded me of the incident of the American bomber that crashed into the Empire State Building shortly after World War II. I grabbed my video and camera gear and walked down to Sinatra Drive, which is right at the edge of New York Harbor and faces midtown Manhattan directly across the river. To my horror, I was told that a second plane had hit the other tower. I began taking pictures and shooting video thinking I was documenting a horrible accidental tragedy and fire. If you would like to view this edited documentary click here (it's a 17MB file and will take a minute to start playing). Two months after the 9/11, I began working on this painting. Calm, crystal clear, deep blue skies are haunting to me now. "Blue On Blue" is the corner stone for "Post Traumatic Retrospective". |
